Roots'N'Roll: The New CD from Bill Culp![]() With "Roots'N'Roll", Bill Culp manages to look back and move forward at the same time…without falling down. Echoes of Memphis, Nashville, the Mississippi Delta and yes, even Hamilton, Canada resonate behind these well-produced, melodic tracks. Comprised of mostly original material from a variety of musical styles including folk, rockabilly, country, pop, and rock and roll, "Roots'N'Roll" also features selected covers from Dave Alvin, Tom Wilson, Jack deKeyzer, Gord Lewis, Dave Rave and Lieber/Stoller. Culp performed the tracks on the disc along with a handful of notable Canadian musical talents including Garth Hudson on keyboards (member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, from Canada's legendary group "The Band"), Jack deKeyzer on guitar (2003 Juno award winner), Dave Rave on vocals (best known for his days with Teenage Head and the Shakers), Chris Whiteley on pedal steel, trumpet and harmonica (one of Canada's top instrumentalists with four Juno nominees to his credit), Conrad Kipling on mandolin and fiddle (from Melody Ranch) and Mary deKeyzer on vocals (known as Toronto's "Queen of Country Blues"). Other musicians include guitarist Dave Tufford (Melody Ranch), Paul Kelly on guitar (Problem Children) and Mark Matthews on drums (The Liquidaires, The Skansters). Recording was done in Toronto under the watchful eye of co-producer Jim Zolis, best known for his studio work with other Canadian acts such as Jane Siberry, The Nylons, Glass Tiger and The Northern Pikes.
